Disapointment & Inspiration

So we're not going to Seattle this weekend. The decision to not go to Sakura-con this year was not an easy one to make, but to quote Britt,

"It's not an good thing to have to choose between con, groceries & text books... The text books always win."

Not that we're really going to have to choose between going grocery shopping or buying school books (I hope... O_o), but you get the point. We have no business going to an anime convention & spending a few hundred bucks on a hotel & food when we're trying to move, get caught up on bills & pay for school. Unfortunately, our friend who we were going to stay with can't seem to understand this. She keeps pushing for us to go even though she knows that if we did, we'd be putting ourselves in an even worse financial situation than we're in currently. I understand she's pissed off we aren't able to go & it was kind of a last minute decision, but shit happens & Britt & I will not fuck ourselves over just to be polite.

I'm disappointed in this friend because she ran and told the girlfriend of the biggest shit-stirrer at work (therefore the biggest shit-stirrer herself...), who promptly made it her personal crusade to let everyone know what terrible, inconsiderate, flaky, rude, horrible, etc., people Britt & I both are.

So now it's gotten blown way outta proportion and I'm wondering again why I keep certain friends. Sigh...

But onto the inspiration...
Another one of the ER techs Britt works with apparently just made some uber life changes so that she can more quickly get through nursing school & onto a better life for herself & her kids. She moved out of her apartment, gave temporary custody of her kids to her ex & moved into a room. One single room where her bed & TV touch... She gave up convenience & comfort in order to get shit done. She did what Britt & I are desperately trying to do: Simplify our lives now in order to make our lives now & later better. I'm so proud of her for doing this. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for her to do it. She's happy though, and content with her decision.

This inspired Britt to want to go home & pack (if only she didn't have five more hours of work...) and inspired the both of us to get our shit together, stop lolly-gagging & just DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

We're going to go home in the morning, change our clothes, finish clearing off the book shelves & then haul them to good will. This weekend, instead of spending money we don't have at a convention, we'll be apartment & storage unit hunting, talking to our landlady and packing.

"Things you own end up owning you" -Tyler Durden

I don't want to be owned by my things anymore. I've been carting around boxes full of stuff for two and a half decades, and I'm sick of it. I'm ready to get rid of things and own myself for once. Wish me luck. ^-^

Back at work tonight... two and a half more nights to go... I stayed in bed all day today. I just couldn't make myself get up. It sucked. I hate having days like that. Oh well, it's done with now, and tomorrow will be better. I think I'll stay up and pack for a while when I get home, then go to bed later in the afternoon. I also probably ought to go to the gym... Anywho.

Feeling kinda un-miichy tonight. I think I'll go sit in the garden after bed meeting and let the wind blow me around for a bit. That will help some.

Sigh... anyways... This post isn't getting any better, so I'm gonna go to bed meeting & then go outside. Here's hoping everyone's nights are going well & that mine gets better. ^-^

Good Reasons for Sleep Deprivation

So instead of sleeping yesterday, Britt & I took her younger sister to the doctor to see if they could hear the baby's heart beat. They did! ^_____^ Destinee didn't get to hear it very well because the speaker was right by her hip, but both Britt & the doctor heard it. Yay! He said that it will be easier to hear in a few weeks, as she's only about 10 weeks along. We're so excited... We'll be aunties!!! XD

After that, we went looking for supplies for wedding invitations. Destinee & Matt decided to have a nice, small, simple wedding before the baby is born (she's due in October), so they set the crazy close date of May 8th. Meep... Not to worry however! They've got two of the best people on earth on their side when it comes to setting stuff up, making things work, improvisation at the last minute & generally "getting shit done". Who? Why, Britt & ME of course! ^-^ Along with Matt's mom & sister, we'll get everything done smoothly.

Britt's going to be one of the two bride's maids... we need to find her a pink dress... O_o This may prove difficult, or maybe not. We'll have to see. We'll keep our eyes peeled in Seattle this coming weekend...

After wedding shopping (we found an awesome cake topper too... roflmao...) we took Desty to the mall to look for maternity pants. She's not big yet, but we needed to figure out what size she'll need in the near future & then what size after she's a few months along. This was hilarious... Britt tried on the "baby bump" pad they have in all the fitting rooms... omg... XD
I just about died laughing... We did accomplish our objective however, so we can buy her some clothes in the near future. ^-^

She also told us that she wants Winnie the Pooh stuff for baby stuff... I can't wait to start making her things! I think a quilt & a few hand embroidered blankets are in that baby's future... Squee!

So that's why I didn't get any sleep the other day & wasn't complaining (too much...)

*does uber happy dance*

A Quickie... O_o

Quickly pounding something out before my dayshift relief gets here... if she gets here... O_o

Anywho. Had a relatively good night at work, but I'm ecstatic to go home & to bed as I didn't get much sleep yesterday. I had very good reasons (happy reasons!!!) not to be sleeping, but I think that post will have to wait until tonight. ^-^ Well then, off to finish making phone calls & then home to bed. Yay!!!

Pagan Blog Prompt: Creativity!

Prompt: Creativity

A simple question today - how do you combine Creativity and Spirituality? Do you craft all the things needed for your rituals? Do you create one (or a couple different) kind of tool for ritual that you then sell? Or is the art created in ritual enough to satisfy you soul for a while? Perhaps maintaining your Book of Shadows is your creativity exposed....

Hmmm... Since most rituals I do (if I do them...) tend to have little to no pre-planning, I haven't had the chance really to create anything specific for a ritual. Most of my Spirituality as of late has been centered in my kitchen. Whether I'm cleaning, baking, cooking, whatever, I'm creating and working in my sacred space.

As far as tools go, the only really ritual-esque tool I see myself using would be my wand, which is a drop spindle (and is used as a spindle far more frequently than a wand...) Now there's a unique amalgamation of Creativity & Spirituality... ^-^

I suppose in a nut shell, anything and everything I create straddles the border between Creativity & Spirituality, as part of me goes into everything I make.

Ho Hum...

Back at work tonight. Feeling pretty good, but I think I might go grab some coffee in a bit. Went to my second belly dancing class today with Britt. It was fun, but sometimes I'm so uncoordinated, I don't know how I don't fall over more often... ^-^ Anywho. Practice, practice, practice!!! I'm slowly compiling a playlist from all of my music that has a suitable beat to dance to. I think I've got about 6 or 8 songs so far, mostly Abney Park...

There's a new blog prompt up, so the next post will probably be that. This will, in all probability, occur only after I've secured myself some caffeine. Well then... I suppose since I'm out of things to say now, I'll go grab that coffee. Happy Friday everybody! ^-^

So I've had the pleasure of having a ridiculously anxiety filled day. It got a little better after I called my mom & let her distract me for a bit, but the old vulture is back, perched again on my heart, making my chest feel all tight & wonky. This is getting old. I feel like I'm going to throw up... sigh...

-____- #

Four and a half more hours of work... Then off to talk to my manager about something that has nothing to do with me, then home to bed. I think I'll take a sleeping pill... Just one this time though. Two makes me sleep for far too long... O_o

In other, less stressful news, I've painted my nails bright, sparkly red. I'm of the opinion that the colour ought to be called Ruby Slippers or something else Wizard of Oz-ish, not the rather lame Sugar Sugar... Hmph.

Wrote a thank you card to my manager today. It's strange writing a thank you to someone I don't really like, but who gave me a coffee card for my birthday, so I felt compelled to write a thank you note.

Seriously contemplating going to my doctor & asking to be medicated. I'm beginning to not handle this constant stress & anxiety so well... -__-;

Sleeeeeeeepy, nyo...

Back a work again for the third extra night in a row... I'm ready for a day off. Seven on, two off, three on, two off, seven on... blech... I'm so tired & haven't been able to get any really GOOD sleep. Meh. Perhaps tomorrow I'll take a sleeping pill, or perhaps a half of one... I'm excited to have nothing to do tomorrow except pack/clean & craft. I didn't get that ATC done today that I wanted to... -__- # hmph... anywho. I think this is going to be a rather short post, as I'm out of anything even remotely meaningful to say... It's about lunch time now, so I think I'll go take a nap! Nighty night y'all! ^-^

Happy Ostara!!!

Happy Springtime my lovelies! ^_____^ I'm so happy I could just pop. I love the spring! As Britt & I were driving around the other day, we saw several calves & the most adorable baby horse. The trees & flowers have been in process of budding & blooming for a while now, thanks to the insanely MILD winter we had, but everything feels different now that it's Spring. The frogs have been out in force every night, chanting in the swamp behind our house & there's currently a bird chirping right outside the window of my office. I feel so full of energy & sheer, unadulterated glee. I want to run outside & dance & whirl about. XD

There is much cleaning going to be done today. For starters, Britty & I are heading to the gym right after work to cleanse ourselves of the three-weeks-without-exercise-slugs we've turned into. Then back home to clean & keep packing. We have a good number of boxes that Lauren so sweetly has been collecting for us. ^-^

I can't wait to get home, turn on some music & make our house feel better, making me feel better. We also are going grocery shopping today. Yay! I can't wait to make some soup & bread. A smaller pot of soup than usual, but still soup! ^-^

I blew out an egg to add to my other two egg shells, so perhaps I'll decorate those today. Or maybe make some inchies. Or that ATC I keep meaning to get around too... O_o

After the past few days of feeling rather dead, winter-y & miserable, I can't even describe how good it feels to just feel good. I love it.

Anywho. Just wanted to post my happiness & squee-ful glee & hopefully give it to any who read this. : D

Have a super wonderful spring day & happy Ostara (or Mabon if you live in the Southern Hemisphere) ^-^

Sleep Deprivation & an Update

So we got up at 0500 yesterday, went to sleep about 2030 & then got up for work about 2230... Soooooo sleepy. o_o I'm so excited to go home & go straight to bed. Yay! We're getting rid of our mattress & box spring later today, which I'm thrilled about. They're about 15 years old... We'll be sleeping on our futon from now until we graduate nursing school. It feels so good to be cleansing our space, not only of the normal stuff one cleans away, but also of all the STUFF that the two of us have been carting around for the past seven years because we're afraid to get rid of anything. It is so liberating. ^-^
Unfortunately, we've received, ah, mixed reactions to our life changes. Very few have been very supportive, but we're not terribly surprised & don't really care. The changes we're making are to make the two of US happy, no one else. We've donated out TV & bags of clothes & shoes. We'll be donating our three big book shelves, as our new apartment won't have room for us to have all of our books out. We're getting rid of our old mattress, as it gives us back pain, is ripped up everywhere & has been slept on by numerous people who decidedly, ahem, left an impression. XD

We're terribly excited about all this, and can't wait to move. I will go into more detail on some things in the next post, but don't want this one & my "Pagan Blog Prompts" post to overlap too terribly much.

Happy weekend everybody! ^-^

In a much better mood. I have no idea why. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. ^-^ I think the nap significantly helped. I managed to not harm a single person last night. : D

The sky is blue & since I'm no longer like the walking dead, I think I'll stay up for a bit, drink some koffee, eat some breakfast, do some housework, craft a bit (I have an ATC I've been meaning to make for ages, and today is the perfect day!!!) & then post some pics of my crafting. I also have that stupid class today. Oh well... I really shouldn't complain. I get time & a half, as there will have been less than 10 hours between when I got off this morning & when I go back this afternoon. Yay!!!

Well then. Now that my blog no longer has a semi-homicidal doom cloud hanging over it, I'm off to read my book until Britt gets out of her meeting.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Grrrrrrr.... Arrrrrrggghhh... Smack!

Yup... That's me, feeling kinda like a zombii. I can't wait to be off work so that I can go home & SLEEP. I unfortunately have a two hour class later today on how to hoist our... ahem... larger patients around in slings & what not, but I'm hoping it will be a short class (i.e. shorter than the suggested two hours...) I think I must be PMSing, because I feel like an uber Bitch. I feel mean, impatient with everyone, cranky & want to kick several people in the balls (sorry guys...) or in the face (sorry everybody...) -____- #

Perhaps I need to be fed? Hmph... that's just great as I woke up late & didn't get to pack a lunch. Sigh.... oh well. I'll be outta here in 4 1/2 hours & then I'll eat some breakfast.

For now though, I think I'll take a nap for the rest of my break, and hope that it will enable me to be civil the rest of my shift.

Nighty night...

Hearth & Home

Hestia, in the high dwellings of all, both deathless gods and men who walk on earth, you have gained an everlasting abode and highest honor: glorious is your portion and your right. For without you mortals hold no banquet, - where one does not duly pour sweet wine in offering to Hestia both first and last.
~Homeric Hymn to Hestia~

Thanks uber much to Witchin' in the Kitchen for providing the article & pic of Hestia. As someone who identified primarily as a Green Witch (if I had to choose a pigeon hole...), it kind of surprised me when I suddenly began to feel like my niche was more in the kitchen... I read a rather interesting book by Arin Murphy-Hiscock, Way of the Hedge Witch, which got me into the kitchen to begin with. I also discovered I absolutely love to cook. There are few things in life that give me the joy & pleasure I get from cooking a huge pot of soup, hanging out in my kitchen for hours listening to Damh the Bard albums or his podcast, cutting, slicing, chopping, stirring, tasting, adding pinches of this or that... Ahhhhh. And bread making... I love the feel of the dough in my hands. I love kneading dough. I love the smell of it while it's baking. I love taking out a fresh loaf from the oven, pipping hot, & just taking the time to smell all the lovely smells emanating from such a small thing I can hold in my hands. This, my darlings, is magic. This is what tugs at my heart and soul, making me feel glorious.

I bought shelves so that I can set up a kitchen shrine. I don't have any particular goddesses or gods I'm pledged to, but there are a few I have a particular fondness for. Brigid & Hestia are two, and are the Hearth goddesses that I want to have a permanent place in my kitchen & home. I don't have the shelves up yet, and probably won't put them up in this apartment, as we're going to be moving in the next month & a half, but I can't wait to get them up.

In case anyone's curious, I also have a particular fondness for the goddesses Bast (due to her connection with cats), Sehkmet & Kali (due to their attributes of fierceness, retribution & protection of women) and the god Pan, as he's lord of the Wild, woods, etc.

Anywho... I feel kinda like an uber dork, as I didn't really know anything about Hestia until I read the Percy Jackson series, but since that introduction, I've found her quite wonderful. It's a pity that there's so little information on her.

Well then... until next time! ^-^

Gak... Stupid Pills...

They're stuck in my throat. Bleh... Oh well. I'll chase them with Strawberry Peanut butter M&Ms. Nommy. Nothing much planned for the rest of today... I suppose I shall have to sleep eventually, as I work again tonight, but perhaps I'll read some more. And clean a bit. And perhaps go out for coffee... Hmmmm...

Turned EA back on. Contemplating donning eyeliner, but thinking I should probably wait until I get home, where I have to means to fix my fuck ups, as they are inevitable. I also need to get some new liner... this stuff's getting kinda... funky... O_o

Not feeling very nice tonight. I have no idea why. Anywho. I'm back to my book. Hopefully that will chill me out before I say something nasty that I don't really mean... or at least don't want to say out loud... lolz... ^-^

Alice & the Inchies

Grace brought me the loveliest present this evening! An Alice in Wonderland Tea Party set for two!!! It has two cups, saucers & teaspoons!!! ^_________^ absolutely adore it! I can't wait to get home & make some proper tea... *squeeeee*

In other news, I've been making inchies tonight! Hopefully I'll remember to take some pictures when I get home in the morning so I can post them when I come back to work. I'm rather proud of them.

Anywho... My stomach isn't feeling so well (I think I may need to eat, actually), so I'm off to listen to some more of the Metamor City podcast. If you like fantasy, urban fantasy & sci-fi, check it out. It's awesome. Until next time... ^-^

Pagan Blog Prompt!

Prompt: In the Media

Pagans often get a bad rap when it comes to movies and TV. If witches aren't shown having green skin and a giant wart (think "Sleeping Beauty"), they are at least seen as connected to a darker side of reality (as in "Sleepy Hollow" or other movies with the village outcast being a witch). When they are shown in a more positive light, it's very light-hearted and less realistic (think "Charmed" and "Practical Magic"). Then there is the magic of Harry Potter that is more about fantasy.

Do you know of any movies or TV shows that cast Pagans and/or Witches in a positive and realistic light? What would it take to get a better impression of witches out in the media these days? Would better media exposure help raise awareness, do you think? Take this topic and run with it... Get your friends involved in the discussion, too.

Hmmmmm... The only movie that I can think of that even almost casts Witches in a positive light is Practical Magic... but even that one is iffy, and not very realistic. I would love to find a movie or television show, hell, I love to find a book written by a non Pagan author, that doesn't cast us in a less than great light. If anyone can think of anything along these lines, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I'd be super interested to peruse your findings.

Coffee & ... more coffee...

Sitting at the Horseshoe with Heather, drinking coffee & poking around online. Happy to announce that DAG has posted the March mini challenge & the Second Quarter Challenge!!! The March challenge is "Deranged Bunnies" & the Quarterly Challenge is "The 7 Deadly Sins". W00t. Perhaps I'll start making some deranged inchies or ATCs... O_o; You know... just to get the creative juices flowing... ^-^

Unfortunately, I should go to bed when I get home... But as I've have four cups of coffee (& and working on number five...), I don't think sleep will be coming easily. The unfortunate part comes here: I have class from 1430-1630 and then BELLY DANCING from 1830-1930. YAY!!! Oh well. I'll sleep somewhere in between. I always do. And I can sleep on my break at work. Yay. Anywho. I'm off to chug the rest of my coffee & then head home. Miich!

Ho hum...

Sitting here at work... So happy to finally be able to have internet access! I'm tired & cold... I didn't get much sleep today. It figures now that I finally have internet, I don't have a single thing I want to write about... lolz...

I'm not quite sure why, but my fingers are ridiculously swollen... O_o meh...

Anywho... I suppose I'll be off then, to work on some homework. Should the mood overtake me later, I'll return. Zya.

Happy Birthday to ME!!! ^-^

Yup. Today I'm 25. Go me. I've somehow, miraculously, managed to survive the past quarter decade & have turned out pretty ok. ^-^

Got really sweet cards from my parents, along with some cookies!!! I love my mom's cookies! She's also making me something, but it's not done yet. Ah, how I wish they could be out here to celebrate with me! Oh well. They'll be here sometime this summer. ^-^

Wonderfully enough, this is the first year in many that I'm not so depressed on my birthday that I don't want to even be awake. I'm considerably happier this year. I've got so much to look forward to!

Let's see...

We're taking Desty to go see Chicago on the 3rd of this month...
Belly Dancing start the 11th of this month...
My birthday Tea Party is... sometime this month... lolz...
We're going to a nude art exhibit later in the month as well.

Well, we're at Lauren's house, as our internet is being wonky & her's works, but now Britt's done with homework. Off we go to get energy drinks & watch Pitch Black with the kitties!
